»Nackter Tango« – Passionate, libidinous, wanton, licentious.

Secret fantasies came true! Infamous, bewitching, outrageous! The very special allure of erotic passion, danced under the spell of the tango argentino festivalito »Nackter Tango« (»Naked Tango«)…

A scenario of a very special kind recently became reality in the back of a restaurant near Stuttgart – a darkened dance salon with a red-light bar: »Nackter Tango«, tango of a different kind … fiery, fascinating, furiously sensual, erotic.

Tango originated in Argentina. Its music is marked by an alternation of movement and pause – staccato steps, yet softly caught. One might think that restrained passion is moving at a slow tempo. Tango, as UNESCO puts it, is the vertical expression of a horizontal desire, and the newspaper Die Welt ran the headline: “More sex and less stress through tango.” A study supports the claim: tango promotes the release of the sex hormone testosterone and lowers stress hormones. It also lifts the mood and, through music, touch and movement, triggers strong, positive emotional reactions.

This new kind of tango event wins more loyal followers every year. There are always “repeat dancers” as well as curious new tangueras and tangueros from all over the world, who come to »Nackter Tango«, staged by its initiator Gerd Braun, to dive for two nights into a very special atmosphere.

Many have travelled a long way, because there is no comparable event anywhere in the world. Upmarket cars park in front of the secret venue. In the cloakroom the female tango enthusiasts leave their respectable clothes behind, full of anticipation and good spirits, and then present themselves in sexy, scandalous outfits. They want to see and be seen – thoroughly, with conviction and fervour. Tango skills are essential for admission, and the organiser takes great care that the ratio of men to women is balanced.

Elegantly dressed men in suits and tuxedos, with class and style and schooled in etiquette – very polite and courteous – make their choice among the ladies present. They find the one they desire and invite her to dance with a look alone, without a word, sometimes from the far side of the hall. The tanguero leads and the tanguera follows. There is no choreography, only impulses: the leader sets his signals and his partner reads his “instructions” almost from his body, placing her step with the slightest delay. She never knows how she will be led in the next moment, and again and again she is surprised – impulsively, yet resolutely.

The women are scantily clad in fine lingerie, pearl necklaces, stockings or see-through dresses with nothing underneath, some bare-breasted, nestled against the dominant leader who steers his partner’s movements through his torso and conducts her. The overjoyed looks of the ladies – almost all of them wear an otherworldly smile – speak volumes about what this dance is able to trigger and set in motion. At times the leaders push their followers across the entire hall with subtle emphasis, and at a staccato a lady’s leg swings skilfully between her partner’s legs and back again. Her leg glides slowly over his crotch and abdomen … looking deep into each other’s eyes, they melt into a swaying embrace. She floats into his arms – an image of absolute devotion.

Then two ladies begin to shed their last remaining underthings or sheer dresses, and little by little more women bare themselves completely and are now admired and desired by all in their natural splendour and beauty. Yet no unwanted touch occurs; the gentlemen know how to behave. Everyone is happy and radiant with pleasure, inspired by deep devotion and passion.

At the end of the 19th century, in the port quarters of Buenos Aires and Montevideo, immigrants created the vibrant, cheerful milonga and the moody tango in bars and brothels. It was mainly prostitutes, their suitors, the unemployed and shady criminals who danced the tango.

Today’s Argentine tango dancers are mostly academics – easy to spot at this event: self-employed men used to leading, and women who often hold senior professional positions as well. They are driven by a deep wish not to have to lead any more, indeed not to be allowed to, but to be held in benevolent centre, free of all responsibility, to surrender to the tango with passion and to become addicted – to the tango and to the leader.

I can only speak for myself. Although I went alone, without a partner, there was not a single attempt at harassment or assault. All the gentlemen were attractive, well-scented, clean, classy; I felt like a sensual, erotic queen – desired, courted, cared for and safe. A few very special moments I will never forget – both nights were altogether so extraordinary that I will hardly ever be able to forget them … I loved watching two women in their twenties dance tango together – sensual, lascivious, spaced out. A gentleman from New York, with whom I danced several times, brought me so close through the dance, through the subtle movements and touches, that I almost came to orgasm on the dance floor – had I not kept myself in check … He noticed, smiled knowingly, and we looked deeply and meaningfully into each other’s eyes. And in a red-lit séparée I watched two couples making love – one wild, instinctive, animalistic; the other melting into slow, intimate sex, from the depths of their hearts, in love.

Don’t dream your life, live your dreams!

I will never forget these two nights as long as I live, and one thing is certain: I have to come back! I can’t let go of it – otherwise I would miss something new but now very important in my life: to live and express my sensuality and eroticism and to make secret fantasies come true. Don’t dream your life, live your dreams! I only live once. Tango, and »Nackter Tango« above all, have possessed me, and I can no longer escape this irresistible spell and call.
