The history of the idea:

In the brothels of Buenos Aires and Montevideo at the end of the 19th Century, the birth of the Argentine Tango, there were so-called contact salons. Quite large elegantly furnished Entrées, where the suitors came to dance and talk with the whores. If it fit between them they disappeared together some time 'up'.

At this time it wasn't like today that they simply were negotiating about money and service. So did the suitors with the 'Dame de Maison' and not with the whore, who, however, had to agree beforehand. The whores were at that time well, because they were aware of their rare value: much more male immigrants lived in Buenos Aires and Montevideo than female. But the prostitutes and the suitors first cultivated social intercourse with each other, operated conversation and also danced a lot - tango. This was certainly also the 'initiation '.

However, the surplus of fresh immigrant men compared to women and even prostitutes was immense, the demand was much higher than the supply.

So it was that the Tangueros in their Sunday clothes went together in competition for the little clothed or even half-naked whores. Therefore, men with men danced, on the one hand and other hand, lack of partners to further refine their skills. They also tried to defeat the rival dancing with the whore by their better dancing skills. To win one of the rare (then heartier, sometimes lasting the entire night) tryst - by daring erotic tango sought to arouse passion and personal affection for himself in the whore.

The best sensual tango dancers was so the most lucky in the ideal case, the less of those who offered the most money or had the fastest interested or simply just best looked.
